Robin Smart's Family

Robin Smart has been part of our family at Coyote Creek Elementary School for many years, and she has touched many lives.  A highly respected teacher on our third grade team, Robin has been caring for her husband who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer.  She has continued to teach with a heart of dedication and determination, but she will be going on a leave of absence to care for her husband during his time remaining. 

Their story is one of love and heartache. Seven years ago Stu received a pancreas and kidney transplant after nearly a lifetime of being a diabetic. Life was good for a while and then two years ago Stu was diagnosed with stage 3C melanoma.  Surgery took place but the melanoma returned a year later. With a suppressed immune system needed for the survival of the new organs the latest promise of immunotherapy was not a treatment option. The battle continued with radiation and Interleukin-2 treatments, but the melanoma persisted.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Smart family, but we can also help them in another way. As you celebrate your holidays with your loved ones, please consider taking a minute, and giving a donation to Robin and her family.  Robin will be, and has been for a while, the sole provider for herself and their three children.  It would mean the world to her as she faces the journey ahead.
