Roberts Family Memorial - Flint Hills of Kansas

Donation protected
This campaign has been updated to reflect money donated directly and new pricing.

*We have raised $2700 directly (via cash and checks) so this campaign has been updated to reflect the remaining amount needed, which is about $2090.

This fundraiser is to gather money to create and install a Roberts Family Memorial Bench in the cemetery in Strong City, Kansas.
The front of the monument will showcase the family as a whole and E.C. and Clara's life raising 6 children and rodeo livestock, as well as starting the Flint Hills Rodeo on the family ranch in 1937.  The back of the monument will have details about each of the 6 kids (Margie, Ken, Gerald, Howard, Clifford, and Gloria).  Three of the kids had professional careers in the rodeo business.  Margie Roberts was a nationally acclaimed trick rider and a champion bareback bronc rider and was inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame in 1987.  Ken Roberts was a World Champion Bull Rider in 1943, 1944 and 1945 and was inducted to the Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame.  Gerald Roberts was a Twice All-Around World Champion Rodeo Cowboy in 1942 and 1948. Gerald was inducted to the Cowboy Hall of Fame, the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame and the  Kansas Cowboy Hall Of Fame.  Our goal is to honor this family, their heritage in Kansas and their contribution to the sport of rodeo and the Flint Hills, including the towns of Strong City, Kansas and Cottonwood Falls, Kansas.  The Flint Hills Rodeo blossomed into a full-fledged PRCA rodeo and brings many visitors to the area every June.

The above image is a mock-up idea on how it will look!

Some have requested to send me a check directly... please send to Shannan Hauser PO Box 541795, Grand Prairie, TX 75054-1795.  I will post updates to the amount we have raised by check so that everyone knows where we are in reaching our goal.

Thank you my wonderful family and friends for taking part in this!  This will be "One For The Ages!"

My sincere thanks,
Shannan Hauser (adoring granddaughter of Gerald Roberts)

The amount we need to raise, about $4850*, covers the following:

- This two-toned granite monument bench in Blue Sable and China Grey (tax, engraving, concrete slab and install)

- fixing the other family headstones in the cemetery that are leaning,

- the cleaning solution to clean the family headstones in the Garfield Cemetery

- a gift for the cemetery caretaker

***As a bonus, I will be awarding a few gifts comprised of items from my own personal stash of family and rodeo memorabilia to several people who donate (via GoFundMe or directly) to this cause as follows:

1. to the person with the highest donation
2. to two randomly drawn people from all donations

Why not make it more fun, right!?

Also, the names of all donors (unless you request anonymity) will appear on a page online dedicated to this memorial bench.

The details:

Three of E.C. and Clara Roberts' children are not buried in the same cemetery with them and the other 3 children.  As E.C. & Clara's great granddaughter (and Gerald's granddaughter - one of the 6 kids not buried near them), I wanted to erect a monument that included all 6 children and to tell of their exciting life raising rodeo livestock in the Flint Hills.  When I presented this idea to the rest of the family, everyone has been enthusiastically on board!  This GoFundMe account is a way for us to all pitch in to cover the costs.  As the family spokesperson, I/we are all grateful for everyone's input and support of this project!

The attached image is a very rough draft and the text is just a start - the family will be able to have input on these details before it is "written in stone!"

The front of the monument will showcase the family as a whole and E.C. and Clara's life raising 6 children and rodeo livestock, as well as starting the Flint Hills Rodeo on the family ranch in 1937.  The back of the monument will have details about each of the 6 kids.

Something along these lines can go on the front of the monument:

"Emmett Chester “E.C.” and Clara Marie Seubert were married 23 Dec 1914 in Kansas.  Together, they raised 6 children and carved out a life in the Kansas Flint Hills where they farmed and raised bucking horses, steers and Brahma bulls for rodeo stock. The Roberts Family started the Flint Hills Rodeo in 1937 on the family farm.  Margie, Ken and Gerald made careers in the rodeo business launched from this life on the prairie."

Payment processing fee is 2.9% plus $0.30 per donation on GoFundMe (this is the same as paying with a CC via PayPal and is pretty standard).  There are no other fees taken.

***Note: if we raise more money than we need for our goal, anyone who has donated will be in on a vote to see what we do with the extra money!***
