Robert Rood Care Transition

Nampa Nursing home under scrutiny for harming residents

My nephew, Robert Rood, is a 28 year old ventilated quadraplegic who was transferred to a Northern Idaho nursing home without his mother/guardian's permission and nine hours away from family and friends who could monitor his care.   This transfer followed his abuse and neglect at a Nampa Idaho nursing home.   When his guardian/mother went to check on him at the Northern Idaho nursing home, she found the staff was not administering the doctor's ordered nourishment, hydration and medication and his life was in grave danger.  This was expressly against her directions as his guardian.   Over the past 5 months, Robert has lost 80 pounds due to neglect in Idaho Nursing Homes.  He is now 6'2" and 105 pounds and very weak.   His mother was forced to rent a van and rescue him from the facility, to save his life.   They spent a week in a handicapped accessible room in a Meridian Hotel, while she cared for him 24 hours a day.   Better Options Ventilator Care Adult Home is a wonderful home in Vancouver Washington, and they have agreed to accept him as a private pay client until Washington Medicaid accepts him.   The handicap van, lodging, supplies, and equipment have racked up $6000 in unpaid bills thus far.   His mother has been unable to work during this process and was already nearly bankrupt from caring for him at home a year before with the meager pay that Idaho Medicaid provided.   His private pay care is expected to be $4000 before Medicaid kicks in again.    Immediate funds are needed to pay outstanding bills already incurred and for the care at Better Options Ventilator Care Adult Home until Washington Medicaid begins to pay again.

As the aunt of Robert Rood and on behalf of his mother Julia Rood,  I want to express that we would be very grateful for any assistance you can manage.   We are also very thankful for Better Options Ventilator Care Adult Home's willingness to accept Robert so quickly and the outstanding help from the owner, nurses, and aides that have been helping Robert and the family through this care transition.  Your prayers for strength and healing for Robert and Julia are also deeply welcomed.
