Robert Winstead Medical & Expenses

Robert (Bob) Winstead

In 2016 Bob was working in his yard which he loves so much and ended up nicking his leg with the weed whip.  Then in September 2016 the wound became ulcerated and grew due to no blood flow to the leg.  The doctors put a stent in his leg to get the blood flowing again and tried to heal the wound.  Then the day before Christmas Eve of 2016 the blood stopped flowing again so he was admitted to the Heart Hospital and they ended up doing surgery on Christmas Eve to get the blood flowing again.  After this he went through three different skin graph surgeries, but after the third skin graph the blood in his leg stopped flowing again and the graphs were damaged.  The only way to try and get the wound to heal was to get the blood flowing so the doctors decided to do a bypass surgery.  This was a long 7 1/2-hour surgery that Bob had to endure and the pain for so many months was taking his spirit away.  But the blood was flowing again so he endured another skin graph surgery and went home after two weeks in hospital.  After a week, the pain was getting worse so with a trip to doctors they had discovered the blood had stopped flowing and he would need another bypass surgery using a cadaver vein.  Date was set for Friday April 14th, 2017.  When they arrived at the hospital for second bypass the doctor told Bob and his wife Mary that the leg could not be saved and that they would need to amputate the leg.  After all the Months of pain and surgeries doing everything they could do to save his leg nothing else could be done.  Bob took this like a trooper and said ok.

Anyone that knows Bob adores him and loves him.  He is such a good Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather and Friend.  There is not a person he has not met that does not like him and he is always there to help anyone.  Bob and his wife Mary have a total of seven children (yours, mine and ours).  They have one son still at home (14-year-old) and they have guardianship of their 7-year-old Granddaughter.   During this time frame he has missed work and has exhausted all of his vacation time so he has gone a month with out pay.  When his co-workers at his work found out about him being off for a while and having his leg amputated they graciously stepped up and donated a few weeks of their vacation time so he can keep his benefits paid.  He is so fortunate to work with a Great group of individuals.

Bob is starting rehab and will be there for a couple of weeks.  Then he will be fitted for a prosthetic leg.  At this time, we are unsure how long he will be out of work.  But with his drive and determination we feel it will be a short time before he is up and running.  He is going in with Goals and a very positive attitude and ready to get started with rehab.

Our family wants to help Bob and his wife Mary with the surmounting medical bills and everyday expenses that they have incurred, so we are reaching out for donation to help.  Every little bit will help!  Since Bob is not receiving disability pay until after 90 days of being off we want to make sure they can stay on top of the medical insurance, medical expenses and every day bills. Plus, we want to make sure he can get the prosthetic leg.

Even if you are unable to help financially you can help by keeping him and his family in your prayers.  Anyone who has met Bob knows this man has never asked for anything ever!  He is the hardest worker you will ever meet and he has never met a person that does not think he is the greatest.  Bob means the world to a lot of people, family and friends.  Thank you for any donations that you can give.
