My partner was diagnosed with CRPS after being passed around every possible investigative health diagnosis system for years.
I'll be blunt. It's commonly known as "the suicide disease"
If you ever meet someone with uncontrollable chronic pain, try to appreciate their life.
A passing breeze can be excruciating. A soft towel on skin is too abrasive.
Imagine nettles embedded in barbed wire dragged across your skin, leaving no mark but a mind of tormented agony.
No-one sees this because you are too brave to show them. The tears are impossible to hide. A caring touch sends spasms through your nerve system.
There isn't a cure. There isn't an understanding of how, or what, or why this happens.
It's neuropathic, or something just doesn't quite work right.
Try this prescription or this, or maybe this. Most medical professionals don't have a clue what it is and just jack up the doses of dependent opiates to try and ease the pain.
I made a choice. I now put myself through the pain of training. My body hates me daily. I run. Little, often and always hard.
I'll be doing at least four Half Marathons this year (possibly more) and every one will be for CRPS.
I'll be hurting for all of those training miles, and every single step of the race miles.
My hurt won't get near the agony that each sufferer struggles with daily.
