Monday, December 5, 2016 -- Campaign Launched

To fight what is happening in this country, help us launch a new magazine, Roar:  Literature and Revolution by Feminist People.  Roar will  feature new content daily, and will launch on inauguration day, January 20, 2017.   (Submission guidelines will be posted soon and submissions will open December 20 on Submittable.) Sarah Sandman is Executive Editor and Roar's section editors are Porochista Khakpour (fiction),  Bethanne Patrick (media), Ashley Perez (interviews), Keith S. Wilson (poetry). Sherilyn Lee is our PR Director and Sara Finnerty is our Special Projects Director.  Anna March serves as a section editor (politics/culture) and is Publisher.  See the great rewards for your gift listed at right and donate to support Roar now. Watch this video to be inspired and learn more about us and our values:

Roar was born November 9, 2016 -- a few hours after Hillary Clinton gave her concession speech on that terrible day after the election.  ROAR is a direct response to the woman hating, racist, homophobic, xenophobic, environment savaging, bigoted-in-every-way kakistocracy of a presidency and administration we face.

Mission Statement:

We are a magazine of intersectional feminist resistance. Our focuses include: the rights of women and girls, especially in regard to abortion; equality among all genders and for all people of color; equality for all lgbtqquia people and all marginalized people; we are concerned with the black lives matter movement, immigration and the plight of refugees, the treatment of muslim and jewish people, and treatment of the environment and people protecting the environment. We want to keep an eye on the fascism happening in our government and our county and fight it.  Roar seeks to promote resistance and revolution.  Roar seeks to change hearts and minds. Roar seeks to inspire and challenge.

We want to offer a space for political engaged art.

We are tired.

We are weary.

We are brokenhearted.

We are scared.

So, we fight.

Roar offers the finest writing and practical suggestions of what you can do to fight.

Roar will publish fiction, poetry, the best in essays about politics and culture, interviews ("The Speculum Spotlight") and more.  We will have strong coverage of books and media in various forms.  We have our own advice columnist, "Dear Salty" (Susan Nordmark) -- offering wise counsel about how to live in these times.   And, knowing they ARE rough times, her sidekick, The Old Salt, will offer his recipes for cocktails and comfort foods to get us through. Click the DONATE NOW button to see our great rewards for your gift and support Roar.

Ours is an activist agenda and our standing features will include "The Week in Hate" by Sandra de Helen, taking a look at the horrors of the past week and what good people are doing to specifically combat those,  a roundup by Joyce Hayden of the best feminist writing about the current state of events, a focused look by Joan Hanna at the work that's making a difference for the better right now on critical issues of our time.  Annika Barranti Klein will bring us "The Roar Meter" every week -- a feminist spin off of the old Haper's Index.  Tom Levine will curate "Polarized", a weekly look at a group of  photographs that together tell an important story about who we are. Click the DONATE NOW button to see our great rewards for your gift and support Roar.

We are not -- and never will be -- a non-profit organization.  We rely on the financial support of people just like you who believe this work is important, who cheer this kind of writing, who want our voices heard, who believe that it is important to support this effort,  and who know that it's up to them to do it.  All funds are processed by Tom Levine .  All writers are offered an honorarium for their work. Your donations fund paying writers and all the other expenses of the publication .  If you want Roar to exist, it's up to you to make it so. Click the DONATE NOW button to see our great rewards for your gift and support Roar.

Please give whatever you can. Please share this. Thank you.

I didn't see an option to pick a T-shirt size. I wear a size 10-12, so that would likely be either a women's medium or large. Thanks!
