The RTF team recently ventured back to Athens for their third trip where they were able to help so many refugees on the ground. The reality is severe and there is so much work to do out there, not only providing immediate aid but also working on long term sustainable projects to ensure continuous support.

We appreciate all the donations received and below are just a few examples of how the money raised for #RoadToAthens3 was used -

-Kitted out a whole new squat with mattresses, bedsheets and blankets in time for winter (73 mattresses), we also bought them ample cleaning equipment to help improve hygiene - a great longer-term purchase to keep these people safe.

-Did 2 x park runs at night time with croissants, water, blankets and coats for the many refugees not fortunate enough to be in squats to provide warmth and settle their stomachs before bed (around 130 people).

-Bought and delivered breakfast for one of the central squats with >100 children.

-Housed 2 x vulnerable families for a month.

-Paid for tests and medicine for two emergencies.

-Rehoused 2 x young men and 2 x unaccompanied boys in squats (we paid for temporary hotels initially whilst working out the longer term plan).

-Bought & delivered food for a week for 4 x vulnerable families living in remoter accommodation.

The overwhelming emotion we feel within when around these wonderful humans is indescribable, their steel spirit, warm hearts, everlasting hope, courage and kindness brings our soul’s to life but the cruel burden’s their torrid journey perpetually throws at them cuts our heart’s in two. Each time our trips end we can’t help but feel there is still so much to be done, and whilst necessary, providing basic aid only skims the surface of the enormous task at hand, a mere drop in the ocean.

The situation shows no signs of changing. Squats are over capacity with many going without meals, families & individuals in accommodation struggle to pay rent and have no money for food, kids are getting sick as well as public areas being full of refugees who desperately need aid. There is no sign of this crisis coming to an end, it is only getting worse.

So with a heavy but determined heart, over volunteer Imran will be heading back to Athens from October 14th - 22nd to help refugees who are now condemned to sleeping rough on the streets without any food or hygiene, as well as squats and shelters that are fully occupied and overcrowded. We will be implementing our long-term plans as well as delivering immediate aid to those in desperate need. We are touching so many people’s lives and plan to supply long-term support and sustainable operations to ensure refugees are being taken care of.

The response has been overwhelming and we have so far raised £1,600 via offline donations for this trip. With this as our base we aim to raise £300 extra to purchase as much aid as possible and will personally be handing it to the people there. Any contribution towards this amount, however small or big would be truly appreciated and will no doubt make a difference. With the winter season, our immediate priority will be reaching out to homeless refugees ensuring they have hot food and blankets as well as looking at relocation for extreme cases.

Not a few hours manages to pass in a day without our thoughts wondering to not only all the wonderful people we’ve met on trips so far but to all who suffer the demise of a war torn nation.

Please donate what you can.

God Bless.
