Marsden Imbolc Fire Festival 2016
An event for the community by the community.
Marsden Imbolc Fire Festival will take place on Saturday 6th February 2016, following weeks of free workshops in and around the schools and village of Marsden.
This is a community celebration, based around the Celtic festival of Imbolc, marking the time when the earth begins to wake up after its winter sleep.
MIFF was started by Kirklees Countryside Volunteers 22 years ago, primarily for the people of Marsden to come together at a quiet time of the year, to explore the environment around them and to share an awareness of the changing seasonal cycle.
The festival has evolved over the years and now draws from a larger, more diverse community in terms of participants, performers and audience.
In the evening, the event starts near Marsden Railway Station, with a procession led by "fiery druids", mixed bands, dancers, stilt walkers and people carrying fire lanterns made at the workshops.
It terminates at Standedge Visitor Centre (Tunnel End), where Jack Frost and the Green Man battle for the spring. We welcome in the sun with a firework finale.
Evidence of this can be found at:
This event is run by, organised and stewarded with volunteers.
We need to raise funds for
* workshop venues
(not the community-minded visitor centre)
* hire of equipment
* temporary fencing
* fireworks and sculptures
and so on.
We thank you very much for your generosity, and hope you can make the show.
If you would rather send a cheque (we get to keep it all then as we won't pay admin fees) please make it payable to IMBOLC. You can send/give it to any of us that you know, Angie, Penny, Paddy, Chris' either of them :) Tony, Fran, Duggs, Keith, etc.
or post it to:
617 Leeds Rd
If you would like to help as a volunteer for workshops or stewarding as well, please do get in touch via the FB page https://www.facebook.com/groups/28897413498/
Thank you very much
Paddy and the Marsden Imbolc Team.
