Meet Elio!

Elio is a 4 month old pup who has had one of the ruffest starts to life of any dog I’ve ever seen…especially one of his young age!  Elio is having a hard time opening his mouth, moving his tongue, and is so emaciated and malnourished that he can not walk right now.  We are told he’s been eating chicken, rice and getting vitamins, but have to take what we’re told with a grain of salt based on his current condition.

Elio was found a month ago by a man who noticed he was declining.  He was taken to the vet twice (we have the invoices) and had X-rays of his jaw, lab work, fecal test, parvo test, heartworm/tickborne illness snap test, and was dewormed and given fluids.  We are told that his decline has been much worse in the last week.  The only things that were found of any significance were very elevated liver values and roundworms.

We got Elio around 12:30pm on Sunday 7/22 with the original intentions of helping him cross the rainbow bridge out of his misery, but after meeting him and those beautiful brown eyes and seeing him wag his tail, I knew we had to do more.

We took Elio to one ER clinic who said we should euthanize him and spend the money on other dogs.  This was NOT an option for us.  We had been raising money for ELIO, not for other dogs.  The first clinic parvo tested him (we didn’t approve this), placed a catheter and did lab work.  His liver values are significantly elevated.  I told them I was going to take him home and they told me they’d leave his catheter in and send me home with flush.  Once I told them I was taking him to another clinic, they took his catheter out. I was livid! A dog who is in horrible shape, had a catheter put in for nothing, then removed senselessly.  I knew taking him to another clinic was the right decision. We spent $343 at this clinic.

Elio is now hospitalized at Animal Medical Hospital.  (Please do NOT call them as they cannot provide anyone but myself updates on him and they need to spend their time tending to Elio and not answering the phone!)  The next few days are going to be CRITICAL for Elio and he will need intensive, aggressive care for at least a few days.

Please consider a donation towards Elio’s expensive, aggressive medical care.  No amount too big or too small.  We cannot help him with your help! Ruff Life is a 501(c)3 non-profit dog rescue; donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
