Expedition MOUNTENNIS

Rutherglen Lawn Tennis Club embarks upon -

Expedition MOUNTENNIS!

Raising money for Sport Relief and #ReturnToSplendour - our campaign to save and expand into the derelict Tennis Courts at Burnside Bowling Club.

This Summer Rutherglen Lawn Tennis Club, located in South East Glasgow, will attempt what we believe is a world first! Playing Tennis on the UK’s three highest peaks within 24 hours. Head Coach Jonny, Lead Coach Cedric, Assistant Coach Jacob and Club President Gareth, and anyone else game enough to join them, will attempt to ascend Snowdon and Scafell Pike on Saturday 4th June and then Ben Nevis on Sunday 5th June wearing their traditional tennis whites and carrying a mini-tennis net, some rackets and a few balls. They’ll play a game on each summit and give anyone they meet at the top the opportunity of a tennis lesson they’ll never forget. To encourage the boys on their final leg and hopefully help them celebrate an amazing achievement, they’ll be joined on their ascent of Ben Nevis by RLTC members young and old.

We hope that this gruelling challenge will capture the imagination of the whole British Tennis Community raising lots of money for two great causes; one national and one local. All money raised will be split 50:50 between Sport Relief  and Project #ReturnToSplendour .

#ReturnToSplendour is our campaign to save and expand into three derelict courts just round the corner from our existing courts. This will give us the extra space we so badly need having more than doubled our membership over the last few years and reaching the capacity of our four existing courts, whilst allowing us to continue to grow and expand giving even more people the chance to enjoy tennis. In addition, it will secure the long term future of a much loved local landmark benefitting the whole community.

Our fabulous Coaching Team have big plans for the future including an expansive Schools Programme and Disability Tennis, but they need these extra courts to deliver this!

To bring these courts back into service we need to replace the existing artificial grass carpet and dilapidated fencing and upgrade the floodlights and also hope to provide a modest Clubhouse.

We hope to fund this project through a combination of existing Rutherglen LTC funds, grants and a loan, topped up by fundraising. Expedition MOUNTENNIS is one of a range of fundraising efforts being made by our fabulous membership. Our highly ambitious target of £10,000 (£5,000 going to Sport Relief and £5,000 going to #ReturnToSplendour) will go a long way to making this dream come true!

Please donate what you can and spread the word to further raise the profile of Expedition MOUNTENNIS, Project #ReturnToSplendour and Sport Relief, not to mention the wonderful game of tennis!

Please note that if we are ultimately unsuccessful with Project #ReturnToSplendour (i.e. we don’t find the funds necessary to return the courts to service) then your donation to MOUNTENNIS will not be refunded. 50% will be directed to Sport Relief regardless, with the remaining 50% going into Rutherglen LTC club funds. If you would prefer to make a donation to #ReturnToSplendour on a no risk basis (i.e. we refund all donations in full if ultimately unsuccessful) then please donate via our project website by clicking here .
