Hi all,
On Friday night (5/27), River was hit by a car out front of our house, while running across the street to say hello to a neighbor's dog. I almost got her to stop twice before she bolted... you could see the conflict in her face, "Listen to mommy? Or visit my doggie friend?" I saw her get hit, and I fell to the ground devistated... sure that she was gone. Neighbors helped me get her to the vet. I was told by my vet she had no fractures (which seemed impossible based on what I had witnessed, but I was ecstatic), only to find out later from the trauma vet that she has FOUR pelvic fractures, two that are weight-bearing, so will probably need surgery.
If you have something to spare, River & I will humbly accept you donation. River is the first dog I've owned in over a decade, but I've always had dogs in my life, if not directly, then either through petsitting or volunteering at APA / TLAC. Everyone thinks their kid is the best, but those of you who've met River know, there is not a sweeter dog in all the 'verse. She has become my companion, and I would be lost without her.
When I pick her up from the ER vet today, I'll be out a total in access of $4,000 on a high-interest credit card. If surgery is still recommended on Tuesday, that's an additional $4600.
I have generous friends. I have a good job. I have a condo with a lot of equity... I'm more fortunate than most, and truth be told, I should have a better savings than I do (Hey, one more thing to feel guilty about. Yay!)... so I'm conflicted about setting up this fund... but if you have something to spare, and want to help us out, we thank you very much, and promise to pay it forward. Regardless, thank you for keeping River in your thoughts & prayers. xoxo
