Rising From The Ashes Documentary

The fires around Knysna have been the most devastating in recent history of South Africa. Thousands have lost their homes and the damage is calculated to be in the billions. The loss of forest and wildlife is still uncounted.

When my colleague Patrick Brown and I were driving past the fires, we knew that we couldn’t just go back home and forget about what we saw. We were amazed how the people in the affected areas are coping with the situation and decided to capture their stories in a film.

Rising From The Ashes is an independent production with the goal to raise awareness about the situation in Knysna. To cover all our production costs we need to raise approx. CAD $10'000.

We have calculated the following expenses:
Basic Camera Kit Rental: $2500
Additional Equipment: $1000
Accomodation & Living: $4000
Car Rental & Fuel: $2500

We are not raising money for any airtravel expenses or honorariums for ourselves; we are doing this for our passion in filmmaking and to support the community of Knysna and surrounding areas.

Note from the director, Sam W. Muehlemann: To produce the film this far I have nearly used up all my savings that were supposed to cover my college tuition for the upcoming winter term. Therefor I will be incredibly thankful if we can raise enough money to cover the basic expenses, so I can continue my education in filmmaking.

If we raise any additional money, it will be donated to the voucher project of "Knysna - Families in Need" that is showcased in the film.
