Rightsell Family Relief

On December 28,2018 our stepfather Glenn Rightsell stopped on the side of US 231 near Crawfordsville, IN to fix my sister’s car which had broken down earlier that day. It had already been tagged with a warning sticker to be towed. He had contacted the Crawfordsville Police Department and asked them not to tow it until he had the chance to work on it. He said it was a 5min fix. They told him that their department had not tagged it and it was most likely Indiana State Police that had. The trooper who had tagged the vehicle earlier came back as he saw my stepfather there in his rental Dodge Challenger with the trunk open to get tools out of and the hood of my sisters vehicle was also open as he was working underneath it. Glenn was legally carrying his pistol on his back in a holster as he does on a daily basis. The officer claims that he approached Glenn ,identified himself and gave verbal commands that he did not follow, and that he reached for his gun. As Glenn turned around to face him he was shot in the face and fell to the ground, (his pistol still in holster) where he laid for several minutes bleeding as the officer called for backup. When the other officers arrived they drew their weapons at him and all stood around as they checked both of the empty vehicles for other people. They then made him on his knees come towards them at least 150ft. An eyewitness and our only ounce of hope for justice was then recording the situation. Medical personnel never came to the scene and he was made to get on his feet and into the back of a police vehicle where he was finally transported to a local hospital and he died. My family was told he had been shot and was being flown to Indianapolis and my mother was halfway there when we found out that never happened. He was in Crawfordsville the entire time. He was savable and never got the medical attention he deserved. My family arrived at the hospital and never even got to see him. My mother never got to say goodbye. We were surrounded by officers whom showed no remorse, compassion, or offered their condolences. He died for nothing. He died alone. He was executed for helping his daughter get her car going. He was the sole provider of his family. And now we are all left with unanswered questions and hearts that will forever be broken.
As we try to grieve and pay for an unexpected funeral...this officer is on paid administrative leave.
We need help, support, and justice. If you can find it in your hearts to help my mother through this please do so and share so that justice may be served.
