#RideWithGraham and his new bike


It's an emotional picture of cyclist Graham Walters. Taken during his first trip home after months in hospital. So what happened?


It's a cyclists worst nightmare. Graham is a member of the Vision Crusaders cancer research charity cycling team, Paramedic and family man. He was out training on his bike around a year ago when he was hit by a car. The driver was on their mobile phone and Graham was as far left in the shoulder as he could have been!! By all reports, he is lucky to have survived, but is now a paraplegic with uncertain prospects if he will ever walk again.

It’s been an incredibly tough year for Graham and his family, with lots of dark periods, and with Graham unable to work, financial stress too. I am not sure how any of us would cope with an injury like this.

While returning to work in the near future seems unlikely, getting Graham back onto a bike offers more hope and believe it or not, Graham can’t wait!

But there is a problem.

The challenge is that Graham now needs a new bike. A special kind of bike. A hand peddle bike and it costs $10k. It would only take 80 of us at $100 each to get him this special bike and get him back out on the road again. If you can’t donate, could you please share this opportunity with your family and friends - share it widely. It is another way you can help. Any excess funds raised will be used to ease some of the families financial pressure since the accident.

Hi, my name is Klaus Bartosch. I am the founder of the Vision Crusaders Cycling Team and live in the Tweed Heads area. Graham Walters is a member of Vision Crusaders team and a good personal friend who needs our help at this difficult time.

The funds raised will be used to purchase a special bike for Graham, depending on funds raised, an Invacare Top End Force RX handcycle ($9k) plus accessories, and should there be any extra, to help offset the significant financial burden or medical expenses and wheelchair access etc to his home.

Funds will be withdrawn and then deposited into Graham's bank account so that he may fund the purchase of his new bike and accessories.
