Hi there!
My name is Michael Mitropoulos. I'm a 24-year-old music producer and DJ, currently living in Tecoma, Victoria with my lovely partner Jade.
On Wednesday 8th March I'll be setting off on a 1,000km solo bicycle ride from my house in Tecoma to the Sydney Opera House. I am hoping to raise some money for Jade's family to help pay for the ongoing medical costs associated with her little brother Joshua's battle against cancer.
In November 2013, Joshua (who was 6 years old at the time) was diagnosed with a rare cancer known as CMMRD, MSH6 that had contributed towards an aggressive brain tumour (AA3). Due to the location of the tumour, surgery was not an option. There are no conventional treatments available for this cancer; meaning Josh cannot receive chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The family was told that he only had months to live.
Although it has been a harrowing and painful journey; Joshua is still alive today having outlived that prognosis. Given no other option, Josh's parents spend every waking moment researching alternative treatments. Switching to a sugar-free, gluten-free, 100% organic, plant-based diet has been one of the most effective methods of fighting the cancer. Through the use of natural medicines, holistic treatments and adopting a philosophy of “food as medicine”, Josh has been able to successfully slow the tumour growth, prevent any seizure, deficit or impact from this aggressive brain tumour.
As there are no conventional treatments available to cure or prolong Joshua’s life, his parents have had to personally finance all medical costs and treatments. It is becoming increasingly difficult to pay for all the medicines and organic foods, as the current monthly cost to keep Joshua alive exceeds $5,000. It hurts me to see Joshua's family experiencing this financial strain on top of an already unbelievable amount of stress and hardship.
Upon arrival in Sydney on Saturday 19th March I will be playing a DJ set at The World Bar, and donating my fee from the night. I would be eternally grateful if you could donate some desperately needed funds to Josh’s family so they can continue to give him the life he deserves. No donation is too big or small - every dollar counts! Let’s keep up the positivity, hope and miracles.
