Ride Against Racism

Some of you may have heard about something that happened to me recently, bu you need to know there’s more to me than that incident…

I am a Black Woman, Wife and Mother. Like many of us, my life isn’t perfect, never was, and my never be. I’m also a full time student at Wentworth Institute of Technology for Construction Management. I plan to create opportunities for other women and people of color in the construction business when I finish my degree. This is a small glimpse into who I am, there’s more to me than the previous and definitely more than what you all saw me experience the other night. I’m dealing with it and one of the ways I relive stress is riding my baby “All Rise 617”, she’s a Suzuki 600.

On Friday, August 3 of this year, while riding her around 10:30 PM, my husband and I were riding our motorcycles on Adams Street and as we approached the intersection of Adams and Chelmsford Street in Dorchester, we were surprised to be approached by a man yelling and screaming at us, initially, for reasons unknown. We pulled over and the hateful verbal assault began.

He seemed to be upset that we pulled over, by what we could hear, in “his neighborhood”. Prior to me beginning the recording, he used one of the most hateful words in our society, “n…a”.  He continued, well you can see video on my Facebook page and I can I can tell you more of my story next Sunday, August 19, 2018.

As I said, I like to ride and I’ve learned that“being on 2’s” brings opportunities to meet people from all races, creeds and backgrounds. They have been some of my biggest supporters during another incident in Boston that reaffirms that race is still a issue here.

We’re coming together next Sunday, August 19, 2018 to ride against racism and for peace. We’re meeting in the parking lot in Fields Corner at 3:00 PM (corners of Park Street and Dorchester Avenue) and will ride to the the scene of the incident to make a statement. KICK STANDS UP AT 4!

Our action optic will demonstrate that I and others, as citizens of Boston, have every right to live, walk, ride and stand in every neighborhood in this City.

The City of Boston has many races, which makes us a diverse and a multi cultural community. We can live as one.  Anyone who is a part of this community should be able live and ride no matter our skin color, ethnicity or what bike we ride (smile).

I want to turn my negative experience into a positive one and I need your help. I’m willing to pay some of the cost of permits and advertising and for food for the ride, but I can’t do it alone.  Please consider making a donation to support the “All Rise Against Racism Bike Ride for Peace”.
