October 27, 2017 Richard suffered a devastating and tragic car crash where he was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Trauma Medical Center after returning to the US from a long flight back from St Thomas Catholic Church in South Africa where he was requested by the Arch Bishop to speak and share his testimony and inspiration. Driving home to his wife in Vermont, Richard's car veered out of control hitting a guard rail at more than 70 miles an hour where he suffered a severe spinal injury , brain trauma, upper respiratory swelling, a dislocated hip, broken clavicle, lacerated tongue and ear, broken nose and multiple facial fractures, He also contracted pneumonia requiring a tracheotomy and a feeding tube, which thankfully has finally cleared up and he is now starting to breath fully and eat on his own and speak again. Dad still keeping with his faith and optimism and anyone who knows him, he still has his lion's heart and awesome sense of humor.
Even with all the love and financial support of his family, Richard is still in need of help to pay for an extensive In-patient Specialized Rehabilitation in Vermont with fulltime nurse supervision and monitoring for many months ahead which is no longer covered by his Medicare and insurance. Richard has come a long way in the last four months while in critical care where he has already made surprising progress and continues to get a little stronger every day.
