More about our project:

I'm Jean-David Parlier.  I'm a business consultant, artist and transgender advocate. I am proud to announce a very special fundraiser that we have created to support my friend Rhys Harper and  The Transcending Gender Project .

I'm encouraging that we each donate $25 (or more) to support The Transcending Gender Project and here's why . . .

Created as a photographic essay to celebrate the lives of transgender and gender non-conforming people, Rhys has gained nationwide attention with his ongoing project that we absolutely love. By showcasing unique and fascinating people who are dedicated to expressing their gender identities in ways that may challenge the idealized stereotypes of “what gender looks like”, the amazing portraits illuminate a courageous and inspiring collective of individuals.

Additionally, this project is  recording, in historical detail, the social shift our country is experiencing in regards to our understanding and acceptance of gender identities in America.  We want to assist Rhys with his efforts by updating his camera equipment as he continues The Transcending Gender Project into the New Year and 2016.

The main goal is to raise the funds to update the essentials for Rhys which include a new camera body, lens and lighting equipment. The camera that he currently uses is absolutely worn out after over 200,000 recorded clicks.  We would also like to purchase an updated wide-angle lens that is compatible with the new camera body.

I've asked Rhys to detail the specific equpment items that need to be updated. The following pieces of  equipment are the "mainstays" that will be used in conjunction with The Transcending Gender Project.

Equipment list and cost breakdown for this fundraiser:

Canon EOS 5D Mark III Camera Body
with 24-105 f/4 lens -$3,099.00

Profoto B1 500 Air Battery-Powered
Two-Light Location Kit - $3,357.00

Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens
For Cannon DSLR Cameras - $809.00

Profoto Air Remote TTL-C for Canon - $403.00

Battery Grip - $279.00

Total Costs for Equipment - $7,947.00

Transaction Fees:  Go Fund Me Fees (5%) + WePay Processing Fees (2.9%) = $628.00 + 0.30 (per donation is estimated $70) = $698.00

Estimated Cost of Equipment and Fees - $8,645.00

We are trying to raise $5800.00

Purchasing specialized lighting equipment will also make it much easier for Rhys to travel to various locations as the newer equipment will be much lighter and gives him the much needed portable battery power that is required for work out in the field.  Through his unique style of portraiture, Rhys records gender non-conforming individuals and their stories around the country and in different locales which means having equipment that is readily mobile is  very important.

For anyone who meets Rhys Harper , the passion that he has for photography and for his gender awareness project becomes almost immediately apparent.  Coupled with his unwavering commitment to social justice issues, tenacious work ethic and his own financial investment in the project (exceeding $20,000), we can additionally support the hard word that Rhys has already done by helping him update his camera equipment.

Our campaign ends on February 29, 2016 with our protrait session in Orlando.  Rhys will be using his new camera equipment in Boston for another special portrait project that is scheduled for February 12, 2016.  We will be highlighting this portrait session as a finale  to this  campaign. I will personally be in Boston and on-site to update all of our donors while we announce the recepient of this special portrait

All donations received (100%), go directly to purchasing the new photo equipment for Rhys and to pay for the associated GoFundMe transaction and processing fees. I, Jean-David Parlier, am responsible for this project and will not use or retain any donations for personal or professional use. This campaign was initiated to help Rhys and that is exactly what we are going to do!

On a personal note, my involvement in this project was inspired by Rhys and the hard work he has already demonstrated with his ongoing commitment to The Transcending Gender Project.    By supporting the purchase of new camera equipment for Rhys, the success of this fundraiser wll speak volumes in regards to a project that so ardently promotes compassion, acceptance and appreciation for the "uniqueness" of each individual.
