Rhonda Gets a Kidney!

My plea for help is a selfish one. I don’t know what I would do without my “BooBoo”. I met Rhonda Hammer Wolkart over 40 years ago when I was good friends with her sister, Yvonne. Going to play at Yvonne’s house was always a treat because I got to get away from my nagging little sister LOL. Yvonne’s little sister was different than mine. She was sweet…and Yvonne liked her! As we grew up I seemed to bond with Rhonda more and more and soon we became best friends that were inseparable.
Rhonda has always been that friend that would give her shirt right off her back to help anyone. She’s always been there for friends and even friends of friends. She’s just that kinda girl. She is a sweetheart that would do anything for anyone. Now she needs our help.
As you all know, Rhonda has been on the kidney transplant list for a few years now. Well she got her call!!! Only it’s not from a stranger on a list. Her donor is none other than the the best man from their wedding! He and Kent have been friends for 45+ years and he stepped up and will graciously be giving Rhonda the gift of a lifetime. She will be undergoing a transplant on April 3rd at Ochsner in Jefferson, LA which is very far from her home in Abita Springs. One of the requirements of the transplant team is that Rhonda will have to stay on site at the hospital’s hotel for one month after she is released from the hospital for daily labs.
Unfortunately, Rhonda’s insurance policy changed this year and they will not cover lodging or transportation any more. The cost to stay at Brent House is approximately $162 a night with tax and for one month that would be almost $5,000.00. The anti rejection drugs that she will be on for the rest of her life will not be covered 100% either. That’s where we come in. We, the friends who wear the shirt she took off her back for us at some point in our relationships.
Please consider donating to help ease the mental stress that Rhonda and Kent are going through worrying about how they are going to manage that on a retired Police Officers pension. I know so many of you went to see if you could possibly donate a kidney yourself, just like I did. And if we could, we would. Since we can’t we are asking for help this way.
