RHINO MAN The Movie

Donation protected
We need to finish the production of RHINO MAN, a full length documentary, by raising $52,000 by August 19th, 2018.

THE STORY

We follow the journey, struggle and challenges of a few select RHINO MEN which have varying roles, experiences and responsibilities. Our protagonist Sergeant Anton Mzimba has been a ranger for over 20 years. We learn about his duties, observe him arresting and interviewing poachers, meet his family, and learn about his near-death experiences. Our supporting characters include a young ranger (Wisdom Makhubele) who manages a K9 unit, an ex-military ranger trainer (Ruben de Kock), a world-famous wildlife veterinarian (Dr. Johan Marais), and a young recruit who goes through a grueling ranger selection program.

To complete the documentary, we have returned to the greater Kruger National Park, and are currently gaining more insight into the lives of our primary ranger characters. We will return in the beginning of August, footage secured, and we estimate a post-production schedule of 2 months to produce a rough-cut of the documentary. This will be submitted to premier film festivals around the world.

The Background

RHINO MAN tells the story of South Africa’s brave rangers who are the last line of defense to ensure to the survival of iconic African wildlife. RHINO MAN gives tribute to Martin Mthembu, who trained over 10,000 rangers in the most dangerous parts of Africa, before passing away in 2014. The daily sacrifices rangers make to protect precious wildlife is a human story we must tell.

The world’s largest rhino population exists in South Africa. Since 2008, more than 7,000 rhino have been poached, which equates to roughly 3 a day. It is expected that they will go extinct in the wild within as little as 5-10 years. The only reason we still have rhino left in the wild is through the efforts of wildlife rangers, or the RHINO MAN. Without these unsung heroes we would have nothing left to protect, and Africa will have lost one of it’s most important resources.
