Return Steam to Como Colorado
Donation protected
In 1938 the last steam locomotive left the mountain town of Como with a load of scrap rail bringing to an end nearly six decades of railroading in the town. On that sad day, many people came to watch Colorado & Southern #71 become the last locomotive to visit the South Park town of Como and the last steam locomotive to operate in the fabled South Park area of Colorado. That is, until now. However, steam will be returning to the South Park!
One of the main goals of the South Park Rail Society is to return an
operational steam locomotive to the South Park and the town of
Como. So we have acquired a suitable narrow gauge locomotive that
is currently under repair and will soon be moved to the growing rebuilt
railyard of Como.
We hope to have the locomotive completed and operational in time for
this year's Boreas Pass Railroad Day in August. However, we can use
your help in “Returning Steam To Como”. We need to raise funding for
the repair work currently underway on the locomotive as well as continuing restoration work on the Como roundhouse and rail yard
If you would like to help with "Returning Steam to Como" project,
please consider a donation to help support these efforts.
The South Park Rail Society is a registered Colorado non-profit 501(c)(3)
