Restoration of Fellowship House

Donation protected
There is a community organization in town which is worthy of your support. Cornerstone Metropolitan Community Church (CMCC) is the first LGBT organization in Mobile, Alabama to own its own property and to have a consistent record of overcoming opposition in the cause of Christ and to advocate for the human rights for all people. CMCC remains committed to progressive, passionate and radically inclusive love for all, deeply rooted in the Christian Faith.

CMCC is a member congregation of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC). We have sought to provide a church home for all who are seeking and all who are confessing hope and confidence in the unity of the church and the building of better community and relations among people of faiths.

We have advanced the cause of marriage equality, civil right and equal protections under the law for all people. CMCC began its ministry in Mobile in the spring of 1985, during the onset of the HIV pandemic and hands on lead the way towards development of Mobile Aids Services and subsequently South Alabama Cares. CMCC lead the way in ministry and care for development of the Women's Center, Annual Pride Celebrations, Feeding the Hungry, and Ecumenical participation in the Quest for Social Justice.

We also for years provided space for AA meetings and other 12 step programs to address issues and concerns of addiction and self-esteem. We have afforded with varying degrees of success in providing special studies in personal development and Christian education for children, teens and people of all ages and we have never neglected participation in feeding the homeless and assisting with housing. Multiple lives have been transformed through our all-inclusive and non-discrimination policies of open hearts and hands.

Now we can use your help in supporting us with complete restoration of the historic 1854 'Freeman's House’ which is conveniently located on our church campus property at 1007-1009 Government St. in the historic Oakleigh District of Mobile. The church uses this building for fellowship and community activities. To preserve this beautiful building, major repairs are now needed. The decking and structural support for the roof need major repairs, deteriorated floors and walls need fixing, and the plumbing and electrical system are way out of date, periodically fail, and need to be updated. Our desired intention is to make the restored kitchen and multiple meeting room spaces available in this historic house to accommodate several community organizations and agencies who share the goals of continually meeting the ongoing human needs and daily progressive actions which will keep Mobile and our community in the forward march of idealistic progress while meeting real needs right here on the ground and in the community we all are called to served.

Therefore, this is an appeal to those who can help support the restoration of an historical landmark in downtown Mobile, Alabama under the care of Cornerstone Metropolitan Community Church.
