Rest In Peace, Jeff Higashi aka Soul One

Last night, Jeffrey Alan Yoshio Higashi/Soul Uno died unexpectedly on March 19, 2019.  He was and will always be the adoring father of two amazing daughters, Ruby Yukiko Higashi and Simone Aiko Higashi (seniors in high school). Jeff’s family are currently working on funeral arrangements and his memorial service. If you would like to contribute, please donate what you can and the remaining funds will go toward Ruby and Simone’s college funds.

My apologies, but I’m at a loss for words. I would like to share excerpts of Facebook posts from those who knew and loved Jeff.

“Mourning the loss of a true giant in the community today.... Jeff Higashi aka DJ Soul One was a truly remarkable, caring, humble person. He was a great father who loved his daughters unconditionally (they are similar in age to my daughter, so this pains me greatly that they lost him too soon). He was an amazing DJ that could rock multiple genres, a legend in both the Hip Hop and Reggae communities here in Seattle and globally. I’m sure the DVS crew is in so much pain, as all of us that were blessed and honored to work with him are...all day I've been reflecting, mourning and grieving this loss.”

“Much love to my big bro & crew mate Soul. Thank you for mentoring & showing us the way since we were kids at Jefferson Community Center. You are a pillar to the Seattle hip hop scene & your legacy will live on.”

“I’ll never forget you, Soul. You are a huge part of my young adult life. You sold me my first cell phone. And bought my first legal drink in the club. Spent every Thursday and Saturday at the Art Bar till it closed down. One of Seattle’s finest DJ’s and just a genuine person. You will be missed by many. Much love.”

❤️ Gone too soon, but forever in our hearts.

We were given permission by Nicole (Ruby and Simone’s mom) to start this Go Fund Me page. My name is Aidi and I am married to Steve Tamura, Jeff’s cousin. Frankie Valdez (Jeff’s cousin) spoke to Nicole this evening to ask for permission.

Hug your loved ones closely and tell them you love them. Life is fleeting.
