Reshaping the Food Landscape: "deserted" part II

Emily Stubb’s 2018 documentary film "deserted ,” (trailer above) revealed the hardships of residents whose primary source of sustenance resides in local corner stores, which lack fresh produce and unprocessed alternatives. To continue to build awareness, Emily is pursuing a broader investigation into the nation’s food landscape, taking her focus to cities across the country where groups and individuals are working to combat this issue.

In the world’s wealthiest country, access to healthy, nutrient dense food should be a basic human right, one shared by all.

The American Nutrition Association defines a food desert as any area that lacks access to whole, unprocessed foods and fresh produce. "deserted" was made to raise awareness and share how Baltimore is working to address this issue through the stories of people trying to make a difference.

The disparity in the people-to-grocery store ratio is significant and leads to vast differences in the types of health issues, life-expectancy rates, and economic outcomes.

Our first shoot (in June) took us out to Los Angeles, where an effort is underway to rethink the role of the local small business to promote healthier options for residents in the area. As a society we need to regain an understanding of the value of food. Through in-depth investigation, this film aims to share the struggles and successes of individuals and communities across the country that are taking on the challenge of food apartheid.

Any donation helps to make this film a reality. Your contributions will fund travel expenses, lodging, and equipment needs. The first $5,000 from this campaign helped to make our first shoot in Los Angeles happen June 2019. In order to make the rest of this film a reality we need your help!
Thank you in advance for your interest and support for this very important topic.
