Rescue Malamute Patty needs surgery

To give 5 year old Patty a better chance of being adopted, CHAAMP has decided to proceed with surgery for her hip dysplasia. She’s comfortable now on anti-inflammatory meds, but surgery is going to give her several years of good quality life without pain. Patty has hyperflexed the carpal joints in both front legs, trying to take the weight off her back end, so she really does not have a good leg to stand on at the moment. Next week Patty will have a surgical procedure called

FHO – femoral head ostectomy.  On the positive side of things, there is little down time after the surgery. Once recovered from having one side done, Patty will return to the orthopedic vet to have the other side done. Surgery estimates for both hips is $5,000, with a rescue discount.

Patty is one of the easiest Malamutes we’ve had in a long time. She loves both children and adults, and is friendly with the majority of the dogs she has met.  Patty was dumped at a kill shelter by her original owner, who had her since a puppy. Animals that are owner released to shelters can be immediately euthanized due to lack of kennel space. CHAAMP was able to act quickly and pull Patty from the shelter, saving her life. We believe Patty deserves the chance of sleeping in a soft, comfortable bed, and living with people who love her.
