Repair Vandalized Artwork

Donation protected
On the morning of March 3, 2017 the installation "Words into Dreams" by S. Jewell S. McGhee and Nikki Leeper was discovered vandalized and littered across the pavement.  The estimated value of the piece is $4000 and its repairs are expected to cost $1000.

This piece is owned by the artists and has been publicly displayed in various St. Louis locations over the past several years after being awarded first place in the "Mannequins on the Loop" competition for which it was created.

"I am passionate about public art, even though public art very vulnerable.  You have to entrust your artwork to the care of the community.  Even though this artwork was destroyed by someone in the community, I believe that community will rise up to support the repairs." said artist S. Jewell S. McGhee

The artists hope to repair the piece for reinstallation July 14th, 2017 for Maplewood's "Let Them Eat Art Festival" celebrating Bastille Day.  The piece, which features Marie Annoinette in a large regal gown has been twice displayed at this event.

"Words Into Dreams has always been about imagination unleashed," said artist S. Jewell S. McGhee. "I hope that the repair, restoration, and collaboration of the community that has come to love this piece will amplify its imaginative potential."
