Remi's Medical Fund

On the morning of March 6, 2017, Remi ate breakfast and was active as usual-he went outside, came back in, looked out the window and decided to lay down. All normal behaviour.
Treat time came around and I noticed Remi didn't come to get his treat, he was just laying on his bed. I took the treat over to him since I thought he was just being lazy. He was paralyzed. His whole body was completely stiff. He could move his eyes and mouth but nothing else. My brother came over and we rushed Remi to emergency (X-rays, blood tests) everything came back normal but he started to have focal facial seizures. I was told to take him straight to another hospital for an MRI. The MRI revealed something somewhat rare. His paralysis was caused by a rupture in his neck called pulposus extrusion-gelatinous material was forced out and was compressing his spinal cord. This is not a slipped disc, deterioration or disc disease and will not recur or cause future ruptures. The surgeon said he expected to find deterioration, but Remi is actually very healthy and in good shape. There is extremely limited information available about the cause of this paralysis.
It has now been 9 days and Remi is still in the hospital, unable to walk. The doctor said with surgery, rest, proper care and physical therapy, Remi would walk again. He will not be 100%, but would have a very  good quality of life/no pain. The cost to help him so far is beyond what I can afford.  Not only the hospital costs but also the items I have to purchase for when he eventually comes home. Here is the breakdown so far (it does not include the upcoming weeks physical therapy at the hospital)
Emergency visit: $776
MRI, surgery and hospital stay as of March 13th: $8,453.84.  I will have the updated charges by Thursday or Friday

I was instructed by Remi's doctors and rehabilitation team to purchase the following items:

FitPaws Rehabilitation Peanut $87.95
2 Indoor pen enclosures (he can't be in his regular bed/crate since I'll have to pick him up using his full body harness) $66.99 x 2
Shoulder harness strap $42.50
Pee pads $22.49
I'll be posting the vet bills (so far) later today.

About Remi:
I adopted Remi from a rescue in 2014. The rescue had received a call from the DNR in february 2013 that there was an injured dog laying in the snow in freezing temperatures. The dog had been shot multiple times. The rescue was able to retrieve the dog and provide lifesaving surgery. The freezing temperatures had slowed the flow of blood so he didn't bleed out. After multiple surgeries (including bullet extraction, having his jaw reattached and wired shut) he was ok enough for the rescue to take along on adoption events-although it was too soon to actually adopt him out.
I found his bio on the rescue website, met him at the adoption event and fell in love. He wasn't healed yet, his fur hadn't grown back and he was terrified of all the commotion and loud noise. I was willing to wait until he was healed with the knowledge he would be a special needs dog due to the injuries he sustained.
I eventually brought him home and he fit in perfectly with my other two rescue hounds. He was still having problems with his jaw/mouth so I took him to the vet for another checkup. He needed to have 9 teeth removed-leftover damage from the bullets. He healed up and was feeling good.
Months later I noticed a hard lump in his neck. X-rays were done and it was discovered there had been another bullet lodged in the jaw area that had migrated down inside his neck along with leftover schrapnel his head. Surgery was performed and the last bullet removed. He healed up and was feeling good again. This dog has been through so much already. He was already abandoned and left for dead once, I can't fail him now. He deserves to be a healthy and happy dog. He is only 6 years old and just the sweetest. Any help would be deeply appreciated. I can't believe I'm posting a campaign for assistance, yet here it is. Thank you for reading.
