Joanna Yates...Where do we begin?
A brilliant, talented artist, singer and musician. Most importantly, a blessing to many lives. Her presence simply paralled radiance and love. Despite struggling with so many obstacles in her life, she fought through with a smile on her face and spent countless hours brightening the lives of everyone around her.

Most unfortunatley, Joanna was taken from us at the mere age of 16 when she fell ill with meningitis suddenly. Within a day, the virus had aggressively made its cruel impact and stolen away our best friend. As you can imagine, this broke the hearts of her friends and family all over Manchester.

Joanna wasn't just a friend to me; she was the perfect sleepover buddy, the funniest meme sharing queen, that gentle voice when you were at your lowest and that confidence boost to keep you going. She was also an amazing metal head that was obsessed with the thrill of each gig. I'll never forget crowd surfing holding hands with her to Amon Amarth.

Collecting money towards  MeningitisNow.org is what we aim to achieve with this page to support others in need. Joanna would have loved to keep on giving through out her life and it's our responsibility to continue that. We will give her the send off she deserves (eventhough that would have been a viking extravaganza!) Meningitis Now are a wonderful charity that help those suffering, fund researching and spread awareness. They save lives and have support lines with excellent staff that will speak to anybody with questions or those grieving.

Thank you all.
Long live Joanna and we will see you in Valhalla

Many of you will be aware that you have all been refunded.

The site have emailed me back explaining my account was classed as invalid for an unknown reason, even though I verified when I made the campaign. I'm in the process of sorting the account out. As for donations, perhaps it would be better for everyone that wants to still contribute to put money directly into my charity collection box from Meningitis Now at the tribute gig that is being planned or another arranged collection.

Anybody that can contact Meningitis Now and request a charity collection jar would be greatly appreciated. Set them up at your schools/workplaces- don't let this moment ruin our immense achievements!!

Joanna Yate's funeral took place on Friday 17th March 2017, held at St Paul's church. It was a beautiful ceremony filled with love, laughter and tears. Amongst the hundreds that attended, were her brilliant family members that made the day a spectacular send off: truly a day we will never forget. Two of Joanna's favourite hymns were sang and a recording of her performing were some of the many highlights. Wendy, Ian and Denholm Yates are a beautiful and strong family that will eternally continue her gentle and generous nature through their love for others.

Some quotes I admired greatly from the day were,

"Don’t judge, just listen. Don’t try to change people, try to understand them, and if you don’t understand them, love them anyway"

"It does not matter if you die at 16, 46 or 86; all that matters is that you had a life of happiness and let God in"

Lots of love,
Freyja
