AlyssaSialaris Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to reach $50,000 by April 2018 to create the Alyssa Sialaris Whittier College Endowment Fund. (In the past 4 years we've privately raised nearly $25K) We would like to make something positive come out of the tragedy of losing our daughter. By reaching this $50K base goal, we will forever keep Alyssa's memory alive while providing a yearly scholarship for other like-minded student-athletes' educations.
Five weeks before her graduation, on April 3, 2013, our beautiful daughter and sister tragically passed away of natural causes at the young age of 21.
Alyssa was an amazing dual sport scholar-athlete majoring in kinesiology/nutrition sciences. She fell in love with "Everything Whittier" and had extremely special bonds with her professors, coaches, friends and teamsmates. They've shared with us many stories of what an inspiring, passionate, funny person Lyss was. She was an active member of the community, and was proud of her work at a local elementary school where she volunteered over 200 hours running a PE program and working with children in a second language reading program.
When Whittier College and Alyssa's coaches suggested creating this fund, we immediately knew this was the perfect way to honor her memory. We know her experience at Whittier was deeply meaningful to her. She would be thrilled to know that through her passing she is still able to be a source of support, inspiration and hope for other student-athletes.
