Regrow Ventura: Seeds of Recovery

On the evening of December 4th, a small fire began in Southern California. The Thomas Fire grew quickly and fiercely and has burned over 230,000 acres of hillside (it was 90,000 when we began this campaign), agricultural land, and rangeland.

Edited to add: I have lived in Ventura County for over a decade, during that time I have been impressed with the way people here rally around each other and support each other during tying times. I observed in person and on Facebook as entire farms and ranches were destroyed. While many of the crops themselves were insured the ground cover isn't and as we have seen with the recent rains, the evidence is clear that ground cover is vital to the recovery of this county.

The fire originally was only impacting Ventura County but now has spread to Santa Barbara County as well, our efforts will benefit the ag community in either county affected by the Thomas Fire.

This land is vital to our community and as members of it, we seek to rebuild the soil which brings so much life to our area and our community. In response to the recent devastating fires that have raged through Southern California, and in embracing California Soils Week, we are seeking donations to rebuild the agricultural and rangeland that has been ravaged by the fire.

While the cost to replace many of the trees and crop plants will be covered by insurance and government entities, there is a need to replant the ground cover to protect the raw soil in anticipation of winter rains and wind erosion. There are also a number of smaller farms and ranches who may not have access to the insurance and government assistance.

We aim to assist our fellow neighbors, farmers and ranchers, by coming together and helping to rebuild what has been burned. If you are a farmer or a rancher, we need and are requesting your generosity to begin to revitalize our agricultural and range land.

Community partners, philanthropists, companies, or caring and kind-hearted individuals, in order to begin to rebuild and bring life back into the scorched ground, we are asking for monetary donations to serve as the seed money (literally--the seed money and the soil money) to begin the regrowth.

Whatever funding we raise will be put towards the cost of starting this land fresh--getting the necessary soil, ground cover and seeds to anchor the regrowth of the crops that were lost. Donations of cover crop seeds are also greatly appreciated. We would like to have the

230,000 acres have been burnt in the wildfires, which are still burning with minimum containment. This is a daunting amount to bring back to life. But if every person helps, this task becomes small. Every donation, no matter how small, will help to bring back what was lost in these fires.

Although this fire has been devastating, instead of letting it destroy the land, we can embrace a fresh start with land that has been cleansed and reborn. With your help, a year from now, it will be as if this devastation never happened.

We will be working closely with organizations throughout the county who can ensure that these funds are distributed to those farmers and ranchers who most need them. Agriculture is the backbone of this great county and we need to ensure it continues to grow.

Join us financially but also join our community, visit our Facebook page .

We are excited to have found a seed company to donate some ground cover seeds, we will use this funds to supplement that shipment.
