#Regina2RootsTech2018: As Creative Director of a Dance mediumship Agency and Professional Teaching Artist, I step UP my service to the Dance, amplifying the Ancestral wisdom of Dance mediums invoking their story, step-by-step.        #nzoCALIFAncestry is a Dancer's trek, guided by an Ancestral Sojourn, utilizing Genealogy as her tool to invoke Ancestral healing, restore Family Charters, strengthening Communal kinship and taking names!
#workingmylines represents a legacy of Family History research cultivated by my maternal grandparents with my grandfather serving now as my Ancestral Guardian. Back in the early '91, my grandfather Claude Waters, Jr foresaw the impact of technology in the field of #Genealogy and research and envisioned my role being pivotal in forwarding our Family History and teaching it to our generations here and to come.

Seeking to raise funds to subsidize costs for this 4-day venture: Plane fare, Registration, and Hotel accommodations [this time across the street from the convention center] take advantage of DNA kits discounts or sponsor one for the community.

My sophomoric sojourn to RootsTech2018  will be a more keen approach to gathering resources and attending workshops specific to my services.  In addition, I have more of an appreciation of the trajectory of the works of field leaders and organizations of kinship that will serve as invaluable allies for my mission.  I'll carry with me burning research questions from clients and community members and delve a little deeper into de-mystifying DNA/Genetics/Genealogy - *squeal*

Plane fare, Registration, and Hotel accommodations

Going to ROOTStech 2017, Salt Lake City, Utah represents a personal and professional milestone, which once started in 1993 making connections about the stories at my Maternal Grandparents kitchen table; we produced Family History books and coordinated Family Reunions.
My Grandfather's foresight was on point then; The advancement of technology swiftly opened gateways of information; I've traced 3 Family lines to a slave owner, researched 5 generations back on my paternal side and in this past year; I've conducted over 15 Communal kinship circles for research, with my first public on-site session in December at the African Diaspora Bazaar and Crafts Fair in Oakland, CA.

A mission to amplify "the story", genealogy empowers my service works of Ancestral veneration and healing; I champion the field specializing in African Ancestored genealogy not only to fulfill historical gaps but to challenge diasporic scholarly perspectives, further impacting Teaching Artist modalities...ALL with a divine commission to fulfill a deep pact with my Ancestors.
THIS IS MY NEW YEAR'S VISION, TO DO WHAT I LOVE... I give thanks for your investment in this service that "gives praise to Life."

Love, ascension, and sweet progress,

...8 days to go, this swift pace still in tow. Among many, my best gift this Bearthday Season was US talking about Family History, Ancestors, and healing after a hearty greeting. #Oakland Bay Area you make me smile wider and #Dance a little higher, #AQUAboom still being heard even when the drums stop; just recently I shared on #BlackBeatBayArea, The Flo Wiley Show, that it was the DRUMS along with Ancestral mantras that invoked my interest in to bind not only our African Cultural ties but to identify those lines - name names and propitiate Ancestral reverence, for healing, transformation, and change...I see it as Spiritual Activism.

And yes if that sounds OH SO AQUARIUS [lol] then Amen, Ase and So Be it. Let the Sun Shine in, and shine brightly upon this vision: #Regina2Rootstech2018

I welcome all the Stars who've dusted this campaign with the grace of their creative prowess of prosperity, as of today, Mz phenom Anonymous and my Sistar Ms. Kendra Barnes. *ting*

*smiling* February ushers a mighty sprint towards my #Regina2Rootstech2018 venture drawing inspiration from a powerfully packed experience utilizing my creative gifts, Ancestrally inspired! Sewing skirts for the Communal Ritual offering of House/Full of Black Woman's Episode: passing/through/the great middle, talking #Genealogy on #BlackBeatBayArea Flo Wiley show and creating an altar in memory of my Gran Teacher Abdoulaye Diakite of Tambacounda, West Afirica *breath*...all phenomenally gratifying - WELL DONE *Egun ire'o, thank you Commune+Unity*

I am pleased to be in one of my favorite coves - #Oakland Family History Center, more names gathered, transcribing stories, refreshing this leg of my campaign amplifying the voices of our Family History. Please do share a good word.

Your outpouring of sharing surnames, riddles and daring to incite wellness, bringing relief to intergenerational trauma reflect as invaluable teaching moments. I thank you.

#workingmylines Raw and Rooted! My fast-paced race walk of a journey has now gained wings, as I prepare to join thousands more to RootsTech 2018 Genealogy/Technology Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ancestors are on the mainline and await your call...I am tried and TRUTH that no boundaries and no brickwall can keep you from your birthright.

#workingmylines from another angle, about 2-3 years ago I came across a U.S. Census document bearing the GULLEY surname of my maternal Family side. When I gleaned the record to learn that two of the Family members' birthplace was cited "Africa" I was stunned! This was 1880, after emancipation and during an era in U.S. Census history where the names of the formerly enslaved were listed, beginning in 1870 for some areas. I held onto the document until I could corroborate shared Ancestry.

Recently, I watched the PBS series hosted by Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr "Finding Your Roots" featuring a segment on Producer and Grammy award-winning band member of The Roots, QuestLove. A most compelling breakthrough in his Family history research was a similar document like mine citing "Africa" as the birthplace of his 3rd great grandparents Charlie and Maggie LEWIS, my eyes bucked! Minutes later the episode whisked us through a phenomenally well-documented sojourn all the way to the Kingdom of Dahomey, today known as the Republic of Benin where a Southern planter "bought" and "illegally"shipped over 100 Africans on the "Clotilde", 5 decades after the slave trade was abolished. What an extended version of a first time session, learning about your Family History all the way to the Motherland and back. Distant cousins would then give QuestLove a rare glimpse seeing that "his eyes" bear a strong Family resemblance to his Ancestor, Charlie LEWIS.
By association, the historic proportions of this story is equally compelling to that of Cudjoe LEWIS, the last known survivor of the slave ship "Clotilde". Being shipped to the sharecropping South as a teenager, after tireless attempts to return home, his clan eventually founded Mobile, Alabama's historical "Africa town" with many of his descendants still living today as learned through Genealogist expert and #BlackProGen, Angela Raji Walton's blogpost Jul. 2014 "The Heartache of Cudjoe Lewis" :

*whew* I was super excited and inspired by all of this, most certainly rocking the airwaves of PBS as well as the world of Genealogy; I anxiously fetched that "GULLEY" Census document pulling an all nighter determined to make sense of twirling Family branches, contacting member trees on, vetting, corroborating, creating timelines [thank you Ms. Shelly Murhpy] prayers, intuition and taking cues from Ancestral hunches. And by dawn, I learned that those GULLEYS are indeed my continental African Ancestors.

Although I share a very truncated version of this story, today I remark that my research was straight paper, no DNA testing...Genealogical research is imperative in concert with additional technological and scientific methods.
I immerse myself in study sessions, intensives and conference study that advance my expertise, often gaining cutting-edge strategies that produce genealogical research break thru. Since 2013 #Dancestory2013 aka #nzoCALIFAncestry has been my trajectory of Community service, to illuminate the embodied Ancestral knowledge vested in Dance, Drum and Cultural Artists in the Bay Area or those with guided intention to learn about their Ancestors.

My Maternal Matriarch is tenacious about learning and teaching Family History. And as I've just learned that my Grandmother's DNA reports are in, my GULLEY Ancestral Matriarchs have shown me that when you call their names, they bless you with unimaginable wisdom, serving as your birthright.

I truly encourage your support as your Genealogy emissary and Community Ambassador, please continue to GIVE and SHARE these good works forward.
