Internet access has always been important for the refugees arriving in Europe from war torn Syria.
However recently it has become even more essential; all asylum applications have to be initiated via a Skype call.
For refugee with no internet access this is impossible!
There is hope though!
While this has been ongoing for a while we now want to share this with everyone; Disaster Tech Lab has been working with a UNHCR "connectivity coordinator" and a number of other organisations to plan the provision of internet access to the recently established refugee camps in mainland Greece.
There are a large number of locations and we have agreed to take on the ones in the Attica region.
This is a total of *17* camps of varying size.
Such a large number of locations brings significant challenges and we are addressing some of these by partnering with local, Greek organisations.
However in order to complete all the installation work and provide people on the ground to provide support for this network we need to recruit a significant number of volunteers who will be able to travel to and stay in the Attica region for at least a 2 week period over the coming 6 months.
In addition to this we will need to secure equipment and backhaul (internet access) to connect the networks in the camps to the actual internet.

We are a small non-profit and depend on support from donors to enable us to do our work.
We have a track record developed during 6 years of disaster response work across the globe and we have been working on the Greek island of Lesvos for 9 months now providing internet access to two large refugee camps and a number of smaller locations.
