Refugee giving back to Harlem, NY

In the heart of Hamilton Heights, a neighborhood in NYC, a space that was completely unrenovated and seemingly untouched was discovered by a remarkable community member, Abdulsalam Abajebel. Better known by community members as Abdi, the owner of Oasis Jimma Juice Bar that boasts two locations in Harlem, has an incredible following in the community because of his warm aura, kindred soul, and healthfully replenishing juices, smoothies, and food. He always gives back to those that give to him, and frequently gives away food and juice for free to customers that have done a lot to support him.

He is planning on giving more to the community than ever, with his plan to launch Oasis Powerhouse, a community space in Hamilton Heights, in the next 3-5 months. To summarize, Oasis Powerhouse will be a place for everyone in the community to come together, learn new things by taking free classes, workshops, lectures, attending support groups. There is an emphasis on fostering growth for both the mind and body, through classes like music, yoga, meditation, nutrition, art, and more. We will have have certified teachers and other talented members that will volunteer their time to give back, teach, encourage, reinvest in, and nourish our community in exponential ways. Additionally, we plan on offering a mentorship program to further help community youths.

He has put all of his own finances into this project alone, financing the renovations, the construction crews, electric expenses, the rent; literally everything that it takes to build a community space from the ground up. It is starting to come together, but it still needs some work. Some elements such as flooring, lighting, heating/cooling, mirrors, electronics, yoga mats, small exercise equipment, folding chairs, and other items have yet to be purchased. We are planning a pre-launch party in October, and we would like to help raise money to purchase all goods necessary for that. In addition, I thought it would be nice to help with financing rent and billing expenses until we can get more stable funding from grants and other sources.

Abdi gives a lot, but you can give even a little. Every bit counts. Even as his volunteer executive assistant, working hard to organize, delegate,  and help Abdi see this project to fruition, I plan to donate at least something every week. So please donate to our wonderful community cause today and pass this on to family and friends, local and global.  We would love to have this financial goal met over the next 3-5 months. Thank you for your support, and follow us for updates on IG @ oasis_powerhouse!
