Reeves Basile Brain Injury Campaign

Donation protected

The day before yesterday, Wednesday, March 15th, at college football practice, Reeves was running for the ball with his eye on the ball and not the fence post, when he accidentally ran into a pole with a bolt sticking out, breaking a hole through his skull and into his brain. He underwent emergency surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and by a miracle is awake and recovering in ICU.

Reeves is not out of the woods: for the next 24 hours he will be under close watch for possible brain swelling, and because of the high risk of infection, for the next two weeks he'll be receiving the strongest possible antibiotics through a pic line from his arm directly into his heart.

The surgeon has just given the good news that his follow up CT scan is not showing any swelling yet, which is wonderful news. She also shared that it was a miracle that he survived the blow and the surgery.

Reeves is still in ICU; they are hoping he will be discharged from the hospital around Tuesday, but will be facing a long recovery. He will be extremely fatigued for at least six weeks, needing sleep most of the time, absolute rest -- he can't bend over, lift heavy object, tax himself in any way -- nothing strenuous at all, just total care taking all the while. During this time, he and his family are hoping to find out about long-term TBI (traumatic brain injury) rehabilitation and the best future for our amazing Reeves.

Reeves will need his parents, Alfie and Latifa, to keep close watch on him for these next couple months; Alfie and Latifa also have their other 4 children to care for. We have created this campaign to help Reeves, Alfie and Latifa get by while they care for Reeves.

For any of you that know Reeves, you know that he comes from the best cloth, straight from his parents: hard-working, honest, just the best of people. Reeves is a gem -- we love him so much! We hope you'll consider donating to support Reeves and his parents while they get through this difficult time.

And, if you're willing, please share this far and wide! Thank you so much!
