Your support will secure one NMRD location for one year.  This means for one year, we will be able to pay rent and utilities for that location; provide income for a team of 13 people and continue our programming.  We are currently awaiting approval for 501 C-3 status and will need your support until that happens.

No More Red Dots (NMRD) organizers have been reducing gun violence in Louisville, KY for over 20 years.  We have developed and use a Risk Reduction approach to street level violence interruption by building relationships—where trust starts—and utilizing productive programming.  We have been successfully reducing gun violence in our city until a recent and abrupt change in our funding has kept us from being more effective.

For three years we had been receiving funds from a local organization to occupy our base location in Portland, Louisville; pay our hard-working team and provide skill-building programming for our 127 participants.  Due to budget cuts that are happening all over the nation currently, we have been forced to end the lease to our site in Portland; stop all payment to team members and severely cut the productiveness of our programming.  Despite all of this, our team has continued working connecting with participants; reaching out to victims of gun violence; responding to shootings reported in neighborhoods; staying on schedule with programming; attending team strategy meetings and so on.

During all of this, we’ve also been required to narrow the scope of the neighborhoods that we reach, from 26 to just 2 districts.  This severely diminishes the amount of positive change we can contribute to our city, and it’s shown…

Before the financial constriction placed on NMRD, the city had seen a 22 percent reduction in homicides and shootings from 2017 to 2018.  Thanks to the previous funding provided to gun violence prevention in Louisville, organizations were better equipped and more efficient.  We impacted change in our city.  If organizations like our own cannot find support, we expect an increase in gun violence for 2019.

We get to continue doing what we love to do.  Many of our team members have been doing this type of work for our city for many years, sometimes without pay.  We cannot help others navigate through their hardships if we aren’t able to pay our monthly bills.  With your support our organization gains stability and can keep moving forward in our goal to reduce gun violence.

By funding NMRD, you’re directly impacting our team.  We put our lives at risk preventing homicides and shootings in Louisville.  We do the work that no one else in this city does, by directly talking with the shooters and victims and making relationships that can prevent gunfire before it happens.  You’re supporting and continuing decades of group sessions with individuals to change the paths of their lives.  Through you’re support, you’re helping us to maintain a strong community of partners that join us in our goal to reduce gun violence.
