Redding CT Skatepark

Why build a skatepark in Redding? Here’s why; Redding is the geographical center of  skateboarding in Fairfield County, and is bordered by towns that have skateparks or skateboarding activities. Skaters in Redding and the surrounding area who want to use different parks pass through Redding to reach them. Why can’t we have one too? A new skatepark in Redding will provide new and creative obstacles to skate safely in a controlled environment close to home. Contests, lessons, camps, and other fun activities may be held here, too. The benefits of a skatepark in Redding are plentiful, and building a park would be an amazing legacy for all of us to leave the town.

My name is Aidan Sheahan, I am the lead advocate for the Redding Skatepark. In 2013, I wrote a letter to the town proposing the idea for building a skatepark. Since then, my team and I have petitioned over 300 signatures from town residents in support of the skatepark, gained approval from the town Board of Selectmen and Parks and Recreation Commission to build the park. We have a plot of land next to our Community Center that will work just fine.

Our next step is fundraising, which is why I have created this page! Our team’s goal is to raise $200,000 by the end of 2020, and to have a 5,000 square foot park complete by 2022, but we could never do that without your help.

All funds received for the Redding Skatepark will be transferred into a town bank account dedicated to the park, with all of the funds raised being directly used for the skatepark (except for GoFundMe administration fees*). It will be enclosed by a fence and maintained by Park and Recreation. The park will benefit kids and adults alike, to give them a safe, clean, and professionally built area to progress and socialize in the sport of skateboarding.

*Donations can also be made payable to the Town of Redding by check and mailed to the Park and Recreation Department at PO Box 1071 Redding, CT 06875. Please specify it is for the REDDING SKATE PARK.
