THE ORGANIZATION
90 Porciento Reciclaje is a San Miguel-born grassroots sustainability initiative that seeks to reduce waste in its local landfill by 90%.
THE FUNDRAISER
We need to cover expenses involved in the first stage of 3 in our plan; the creation of a waste sorting model that can be replicated in homes and an education center.
THE PROJECT
San Miguel de Allende "the best city in the world" continues to have a mixed waste open landfill that affects the health of the ecosystem and the many families that work there.
Throwing out our mixed waste does not make sense, it causes serious problems and is easily avoidable. A local recycling system and program is the obvious next step, the question is, when? to which we say, why not now?
Our main goal is to implement a simple sorting system that allows our waste to be divided into categories that will benefit many; organic for composters, recyclable for waste pickers and the rest would be a small portion of real waste of only 10%.

To build the whole project it will take $294,000 pesos (approx 15000 usd). We will continue to look for funding and alliances.
We will post this campaign for two month and harvest whatever generous donation you are willing to share and start organically from small to big and gain momentum.

Our plan is divided into 3 stages that will be implemented in short, medium and long term.
Stage 1: The foundation of a waste sorting model that can be replicated in homes and an educational center to teach environmental issues to the community.
Stage 2: The implementation of an organic waste collection system and a community compost. In order to benefit the communities around the landfill by delivering clean recyclable materials that can be sold and don't represent an environmental or health hazard due to the decomposition of organic waste.
Stage 3: The establishment of a responsible collection center for recyclable materials.
FUNDING OF THE FIRST STAGE
Education campaign
We will carry out conferences and workshops for kids and grownups at the facilities, in rural communities and in schools. At our hub we will provide printed material, and tools for recycling such as biodegradable disposable products, composting bins, garbage separating bins.
Education center
We will fund the first responsible waste management system for a public space in town, designing it in a way that is easy and sustainable so it can be replicated in other businesses, homes and institutions in order to reach our goal of actually be the "best city" in Mexico regarding recycling initiatives. Let´s be Mexico´s greener city
Advocating
We are working to build a social movement that will stimulate the government to implement a proper recycling education campaign and infrastructure for the city.
