RecyclePak - Help Boise Recycle Cartons!

It all started when my boyfriend and I started re-evaluating the waste we produce. We found that one thing that was hard to replace was our non-dairy milk. When we confirmed that non-dairy milk cartons weren’t accepted for collection in the Boise municipal recycling program, we took action.  We took action after we took steps to reduce waste in our own household. We studied guidance issued by the Carton Council, an organization committed to advancing carton recycling in the U.S. We then founded RecyclePak, and began collecting cartons late last year through a small-scale pick-up service based out of Garden City. The pick-up service has been discontinued in place of a collection bin at the North End Boise Co-Op. We collect the cartons and ship them to Alpine Recycling in Denver, Colorado. They then take the cartons and compress them into a large bale. The cartons are shipped to a specialty paper mill that will separate the different materials (paper, plastic, sometimes aluminum). The cartons can then become paper products like tissues, or building products like window frames.
Side note: by all means, if you can avoid these cartons PLEASE DO! There are alternatives and homemade swaps you can make that will avoid this unnecessary packaging.
