Rebuilding Youth Opportunities Ctr

Donation protected
The Wichita Falls Art-Entertainment & Culture (WFAE&/C) is a not for profit organization and the parent company of the Youth Opportunities Center (YOC). WFAE&C was established in 1987 and has since provided over twenty years of cultural awareness and cultural entertainment services to Wichita Falls and the surrounding community.

In 1993, the Senior-Junior Forum of Wichita Falls donated the facility where YOC is now housed, located at 401 Madison Street in the City of Wichita Falls, TX. This facility is a sturdy 55 year old structure comprised of three buildings including a gymnasium (5,005 sq. ft.): it also includes a large rear yard (15,000 sq. ft.) that provides ample room for growth and facility expansion. In addition, we have an unique octogonal shaped fine arts building (3,590 sq. ft.) and a rectangular education building (4,290 sq. ft.). We are also the owner of three (3) vacant lots that can be used for expansion.

On January 15, 1994 we opened our doors to the community, since that time YOC has maintained a strict focus on providing a safe facility where youth, their families and other community residents can express and hone their intellectual, spiritual and physical talents. Among our many goals at YOC, those we target hardest are combating youth criminal behavior, reducing youth unemployment, empowering our youth in the spiritual, educational , vocational and recreational fields, and preparing them for their roles as self-sufficient adults in future society.

The foundation of the Youth Opportunities Center is to allow all to express themselves through the arts. We know the arts are rooted in divinity and we use the arts to reprogram our youth in believing in themselves as well as believeing that all were born with innate talents, gifts and skills. Allowing youth to participate in the arts help with empowerment, individuality, self esteem, confidence and other personal growth goals. “Throughout the ages, man has striven to go beyond the limits of the immediate physical world to create that which was not there before and thus nourish and exhilarate the human spirit. Our first record of man’s perception of the world around him was through art scratched on cave walls, carved in stone, or molded in clay. Man’s need to make, experience, and comprehend art is as profound as his need to speak. It is through art that we can understand ourselves and our potential. And it is through art, that we will be understood and remembered, by those who come after us.” -David Grojean

Our 55 year old facility is in need of repair. Although we have many goals to achieve, we are currently corresponding with a local group of architects to partner with us. For expansion, we must start with the roofing and air conditioning. Estimated costs for Phase 1 is quoted as $125,000. We will illicit community support throughout the project's end. Roof repair is $70,000 and air conditioning is quoted at $26,000. The remaining $29,000 will be used for operating costs.

One of many goals at YOC, is to evolve into an accredited performing and visual arts neighborhood school/museum for African Americans and Hispanics.  The achievement of this goal will help heal our youth and communtiy, we desire to revitalize our community through the arts.  Our youth and our community deserve complete fulfillment, deserves to seek and fulfill their Universl potential and purpose. Most entities seek to eliminate the arts, most don't realize the arts are rooted in divinity, which means when used properly the higher self is in alignment with Universal Law.
