Rebuild Nepal

Who am I?

My name is Suesha Rana and I am running this fundraising with my husband Chris Fenner, who I married in Kathmandu, just 2 days before the earthquake struck.

Why are we doing this?

On the 25th of April 2015, my small nation of Nepal was devastated by a 7.9 magnitude earthquake. Many people have been made homeless, thousands have died and the death toll is still rising.

Just newly married, Chris and I were there when this earthquake struck and saw with our own eyes my beautiful country fall apart.  The earth roared beneath us, temples crumbled, houses were destroyed and historical sights was brought to rubbles.

Chris and I have been so heartbroken by this devestating event, but we are determined to help Rebuild Nepal with your kindness and generosity.  We were very fortunate that our immideate family and friends were safe and unharmed, however some of our family that were living in the village of Sindhupalchowk were not as lucky. Some lost their lives, all of them lost their homes and many don't have anything at all. Their survival at this point is due to their sheer will power.

Chris and I are now back in Australia where we live and we are doing everything in our power to give back to Nepal and espeically our community/village there.

Who will you be helping?

We are concentrating on helping a district called Sindhupalchowk, Karthali Ga Bi Sa, which is 150km away from Kathmandu.  This district and their villages are the most underdeveloped area in Nepal and also where my family comes from.

So far over 150 houses have been completely destroyed, leaving more 500 people homeless. 10 people have been killed and 59 severely injured, that have been registered. Many have still not been pulled out of the wrekage as the roads have also been damaged and no aid is able to go to them.

We have registered our own non profit organization (Sindu Samaj Udhar Organisation) for the village and have organised a team in Nepal (families from the village and Kathmandu), that are riding on motorbikes as far as the road will take them, then walking for hours to deliver aid/donations to the village.

Sindhu Samaj Udhar organization is a Non-Profit Volunteers organization. Founded in 2012 by local youth of Karthali VDC, Sindhupalchok. The organization works in various fields for community development in Sindhupalchok, Nepal. The mission of Sindhu Samaj is to provide quality educational opportunities for orphaned and the most needy children and help create micro-economic opportunities to improve socio-economic well being of economically weak people of Sidhupalchok District in Nepal. It also has been providing volunteering service to the society when needed.Such as immediate and long -term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters by engaging and leveraging volunteers, partner organization and local communities.

How will you be helping?

Our aim at this present time is to mend the roads, so aid workers are able to access this remote village and provide neccessary help. We have already raised $2000AUD amongst our family and friends, and our team is headed there on the 7th of May to start working on the roads.

With the donations we recieve we will be buying all the supplies from Nepal, this way we can help sustain Nepal's economy.

Immediate supplies neccessary are; tents, blankets, sleeping bags, ponchos, clothing, womens sanitary, water purifier tablets, childrens nappies, soaps, hygiene kits, rice, water, dry foods, kitchen sets, and medication for those injured.

All donations given to our community club will go directly towards helping rebuild our remote village in Sindhupalchowk. We promise to keep you updated with our progress and we will be forever greateful for your generosity.
