Replace Torn Down Concession Stand

Tax deductible
Salem Little League in Salem, MA was founded in 1987 and serves nearly 600 youths of Salem and their families yearly.   We are the largest league in Massachusetts Little League District 16.   We are also one of the largest youth-serving entities in the city.

A year or so ago, we were notified by the city that a federally funded flood mitigation project would be completed and that it would require our current main ballpark, O'Grady Field at Forest River Park, to be demolished, raised up, and re-built.   As such, we expected to lose this field for the 2018 season, if not for 2019 as well.  As you can see in the picture, work started in August, 2017, right after our season ended on Family Day, where trophies and awards are presented to the players.

O’Grady field is where a majority of all the games each year are played, and where the league’s lone full concession stand was located.   The Salem Little League Board of Directors counts heavily on each dollar spent from fans visiting the concession stand to help with many of the expenses throughout the year, which in turn, allows the league to keep their registration fees to participate among the lowest in the North Shore (about 30% lower than neighboring cities and towns).

Because of this project, our league was already planning on losing the field itself and all concession revenues for the next 2 years, and therefore was working to find a way to pay for expenses for the 2018 and 2019 seasons while attempting to not being forced to raise participation fees.  Adding to the hurdle of losing a valued source of income, the league was notified that the concession stand building would not be replaced as part of the project.  As such, the league is responsible for replacing it, or risk losing that revenue for years to come.  Additionally, the league was notified that should the league replace the building, it would need to have a lift or elevator to make it ADA compliant.  This ballpark will truly be accessible to all.

Your donation will go directly to funding our replacement of the Concession stand building at O'Grady field. Current estimates, per the architect, to replace this structure is $150,000.   We have lined up donated labor and materials but not everything is covered. We anticipate needing about $75,000

Any Donations in excess of our goal will be used as follows:

* Help cover expenses in 2018 and 2019 so we are not forced to greatly raise participation fees

* Potentially make improvements at the other fields in the city where our children play.

Thank you!
