Rebuild Morlock Farms

Donation protected
Just before Noon today, the barn that housed Morlock Farms Chicken Rescue burnt to the ground. Many hens and newly hatched chicks perished in the fire.  All of the organic chicken feed, hay and bedding was lost. Tonight over 200 chickens are in need of shelter from predators, feed and bedding.
Morlock Farms moved into the property in 2017.  It was then that Amber heard of the USDA shutting down a farm and went there to take in 75 laying hens in deplorable conditions....and so the rescue began. It has now taken in over 150 chickens in the last year. The flock was at 300 until the fire claimed some lives. Thankfully, the majority were out in their yard when the fire started. Amber will not know how many were lost in the fire until she can look through the debris for leg bands.  Fortunately, she is professional and diligent about making sure all her birds are banded and tracked via a spreadsheet which will help her determine how many were lost.

At this time it is not known what caused the fire, but the flames originally came from the stall where the hay was stored and quickly spread.

Amber has been selling eggs to the community at a very economical price to offset the cost of the large amount of chicken feed consumed. The community has been very supportive in purchasing eggs so the farm can continue to help carry out the mission of helping chickens in need. Insurance is not expected to cover the loss of the building due to the age. Please help show your support of this special farm that has been working so very hard to grow and do more.
