Rebuild after New Years Eve fire

$1,290 of $5,000 goal

On 12/31/18 I was in the process of moving the last load from my old house into my new house. I received a call on my ride back to my new place from the fire department. My worst fear had come to life. There was a fire in my house. Luckily my 3 year old daughter had begged me to go with, so I gave in and took her and my 15 year old sister. The cause is still under investigation, but what we know right now is that the fire started in the kitchen, and there is smoke and heat damage throughout the home. I am asking for money because we had only been in our new place barely a week and had not initiated renters insurance. From what I’ve seen clean up will cost anywhere from 2000-3000, I have also lost everything in my kitchen - food, appliances, dish ware, everything. We are also currently without anywhere to go until further notice.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, we have some good and bad news. I was served with a notice to vacate. My landlord will be reimbursing me January rent as long as I am out before the 9th. With the money he is returning and the money I have received here and money from the Red Cross I should be able to get into a new apartment to start working on to call home.

Well, we met with the Red Cross today who have been amazingly helpful. They are setting us up in a hotel for the time being so our family can be together. Currently we are separated. This will bring our family back together. They also gave us a Mickey Mouse doll and a couple of blankets. Rosa loves them both.

Not much, but with the help if my parents we baked several goodies to take to the Iowa City Fire Department - Station 2 for a huge thank you for their help and quick actions to put out the fire. I cannot express how helpful they were during everything. They were so understanding and really understood the loss of a fire, after all they do see many losses on a daily basis. So great full they were there!

Here are some photos of the inside of our apartment. Still unsure of how it started. Just glad we are all safe and sound.
