Paralympics for Brant Garvey

TWO years ago, Brant Garvey couldn’t run or ride a bike.
Now the 29 year old congenital above-knee amputee has his sights set on competing as a triathlete at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
He is currently ranked fifth in the world for the paratriathlon PT2 class.
Garvey has also become the first Australian above-knee amputee to finish an Ironman — and he set a WORLD RECORD doing it.
Three weeks ago Garvey “blew out the (mechanical) knee” on the blade and that meant a $6000 cost.
The life expectancy for running blades are two-three years. Garvey has reached the two year mark and the carbon fibre is starting to delaminate which means it loses efficiency & you work harder and go slower.
He has a running leg and a cycling leg and it costs $20,000 a year on maintenance; so that’s $20,000 with a few year life span
