Ray Wilson Memorial Fund

Our dear Raymond took his last breath on Thursday, the 21st of July, 2016 at home in the arms of his wife and children.

In October 2015, Ray went to the doctor because he had some persistent back pain. They did a CT scan and discovered some irregularities with his kidney. They did a second CT scan and found enlarged lymph nodes and spots in his lungs. And just like that, we found out that our dad had cancer.

My dad was always a robust guy. A big, bold, silly genius guy. After being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, he chose to fight. Although he was in tremendous pain and experienced a grueling physical melting of over 100 pounds, he continued to be the strongest, kindest, most compassionate man I've ever known through the last day of his life. From chemo, to radiation, to naturopathic remedies, teas, tinctures, supplements, and potions: he tried it all with dignity and a sense of humor.

He was a private man, but his work and laughter reverberate around the globe. Ray was an artist, builder, thinker, musician, writer, comedian, inventor, and above all a family man. His legacy will live on through his creations. We will remember his humor, grace, laugh, and inventive spirit.

We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support from the community over the past year. We started a gofundme campaign last fall to help cover medical expenses, and the support was tremendous; even his hero comedian Jerry Seinfeld participated and provided signed DVDs! Our family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks for the help to defray Dad's medical costs. Your kind assistance enabled my mother to spend the last few months of Dad's life at his side.

Many people have reached out asking for a way to memorialize or honor Dad. We are working to create a memorial to honor his life and love. Our intention is to create a permanent memorial installation - a thinking spot, a place to meditate on a world where all beings are free from pain. We are therefore raising money to install a beautiful bench and/or plantings along one of Dad's favorite trails near their home. This would be a space for all part and full-time philosophers to come and sit and see the world through his eyes and maybe get a little inspiration from one of his favorite places on earth. We will post details at www.crowdfundraywilson.today after the bench has been installed, its exact location, and an invitation to share a day celebrating at an event worthy of this wonderful man.

Ray taught us that the greatest thing is love, love, love.

We loved this excellent man. May he ever keep imagining, keep inventing, and stay ingenious, and make beautiful music from outer space.
