Mike Rathmann's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
As many of you know, Mike Rathmann's health has been on a constant roller coaster since June 2008 when he was involved in an accident at the Lake of the Ozarks. He remains a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the diaphragm down.

A few years ago, a few of Mike's close friends launched the "Miles for Mike " fundraiser, hoping to raise funds for Mike's medical expenses and college tuition expenses by pushing Mike 13.1 miles across his first finish line since his accident. Thanks to your generous support, we raised more than $14,000!

Since then, Mike successfully graduated from Webster University and became a full-time teacher at St. Joseph's Academy.

This past year, Mike's health took a turn for the worse. He contracted an agressive bacteria in his organs, forcing doctors to take out parts of his gastrointestinal organs including most of his large intestine. He's been at Mercy Hospital since September 27, spending the first several weeks in the ICU and recently transitioned to Kindred Hospital (floor 7 if you'd like to visit).

He's currently on a feeding tube and ventilator.  Doctors are trying to figure out how he can successfully eat and digest food without most of his large intestine, so he can put on weight, gain strength and work toward a full recovery. But it's been a challenge.

Over the course of his stay, medical bills and personal bills have piled up since he hasn't been able to return to work. We've set up a Special Needs Trust to support Mike and his needs during this uphill battle to his hopeful recovery.

Mike's perseverence and strength is like no other. We know he can get through this. Your thoughts, prayers and support are much appreciated.
