Rashad's Recovery Fund

Rashad is a student with Special Needs. I have worked with him as a teacher for 2 years. Prior to that he was at our school for several years before. Our school services students of most grade levels (1st to 12th) who have emotional challenges. Rashad has come a long way-made it to his senior year. He will be graduating in late May/early June-walking the stage and receiving his hard earned diploma.

Rashad has several siblings and his mother. He contributes to his household. Prior to Thanksgiving I helped him get at position at UPS. I had worked there many years, many years ago and it was a good fit. He got a position, ironically in the same area (PD) I worked at so many years ago and he grew to love his job.

Some weeks ago, Rashad got his Friday paycheck after his Twilight shift. His mother picked him up and he went to cash it. He left his ID in his mother's car so he went to get it. As he went to get his ID he crossed traffic that was stopped and in the moment of him getting to his mother he crossed the other lane and was hit by a car. He has broken ribs, his arm came out of the socket, several breaks in the arm, cuts and bruises. He is recovering. The first hospital actually admitted him, did not do the necessary X-Rays and sent him home. Still in pain, the next day he went to another hopsital and that hospital saw the severity of his injuries and treated him appropriately.

Rashad may lose his position at UPS as his recovery and physical therapy will take a while. He is in good standing with them and will hopefully go back. He has already been persistent in coming back to school-sling, discomfort, pain, and all. He takes his future seriously and I admire him for that.

I am doing this because he helps support his family and until he can get back on at UPS he can't contribute. He pays some bills, contributes to paying for food and other things and right now his income is not there.

Rashad exemplifies overcoming multiple challenges. He refuses to give up to pain, setbacks, and is committed to getting back on track to graduating, moving on to college, as well as going back to work. He needs support in the meantime.
