Raptor Care NW, Bird of Prey rehabilitation centre

Donation protected
My Husband Adam and I care for injured and endangered Birds of Prey at our home in North West Tasmania, something my husband has done since he was a young boy. 2 Years ago we began taking in birds after the closure of the only rehabilitation centres in North West Tasmania. (All pictures are of birds we have had in our care).

Being the only specialised raptor care facility in the north of the state, (The only 2 specialised centres for these animals are in the south, which means a 4 hour travel for a large bird if we were unable to take them, a major disruption for any injured animal. Some have unfortunately perished in the travel), and with no outside assistance or government funding, we cover all of our own expenses. This ranges from food (Eagles eat a lot, and Owls have a very specific diet!) medication and vet treatment, and travel expenses when we need to pick up an animal from another area (Tasmania is quite spread out so we can be travelling up to 2 hours each way to retrieve a bird). We also are a family with 2 small children.

We converted a shed into 1 large aviary, enough to house 1 large bird (eagle) and a friend helped us convert another area into a smaller aviary for 1 smaller bird that requires a darker quieter space.
Over the last 12 months we have become quite inundated, and are finding it increasingly difficult to house these birds while we are rehabilitating them, especially when we have long term residents that need several months of rehabilitation like our Brown Goshawk.

The funds we require will go into removing an old shed on our property, and using the existing slab to erect a new larger, purpose built flight aviary and 1 more smaller rehabilitation aviary. It will also be used to purchase appropriate food for the birds, and be there to cover medication and travel expenses.

Mentioning the idea of a fundraiser interested a lot of people on social media, which gave us great hope that there are people willing to support us and what we do.

My husbands passion for these animals, and his knowledge and dedication to them and their well-being is astounding. These funds will enable us to continue to take in these majestic creatures and give them the proper care they need, with as little disruption and inconvenience to them as possible, until we can release them back into the wild.
