Can you help us put on a summer camp for kids in DP by donating a few euros?

We are organising our second very exciting Summer Camp for children in Direct Provision! Last year was a massive success made possible by the support of all you wonderful donors. We're hoping this year will be even better.

Let me explain a bit about our camp idea and reasons for doing it. The camp will run from the last week of July to the first week of August in Liberties College, D8. The wonderful children attending will be from Hatch Hall Accommodation Centre, Dublin 2. This is our second year doing it and we expect to have about 20 kids.  Each day there'll be a bunch of different activities and workshops for the kids. We'll have art classes, dancing, music, sports, drama, trips and so much more. We'll also be heading to Tayto Park with the kids and their parents.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are putting on the camp because we believe every child has the right to enjoy and should have access to high quality educational, creative, engaging, fun, enriching activities. Many of us involved in the planning are working in education as teachers or youth workers etc. We know when the summer holidays come around that kids can get bored and not have too much to do at times. We also know that accessing these activities during the summer can be out of reach financially for many parents, such as those in Direct Provision who still have highly restricted access to work and get an allowance of €38.80 for adults (from week beginning 25 March 2019) from the government. Imagine trying to cover basic costs on that much, let alone pay for a summer camp for your kids? Because we live in a deeply unequal society, where so many are socially excluded in so many ways, too many kids (whether in DP or in emergency accommodation) are left behind and locked out of the opportunities that every young person should have access to. The summer camp is a small way of trying to support these children and their parents while being stuck in this deeply unjust system. If you think this camp is worthwhile please donate a few euros to help make it a reality.
Warmest thanks,
everyone on the summer camp team with Refugee and Migrant Solidarity Ireland
