Scott Britnell to Dakar 2018

Rallying For Dakar 2018

Scott Britnell is an Australian motorcycle competitor in the final stages of preparation for his 2018 Dakar Rally entry as a private competitor. His friends and family are rallying the troops to help him get to the starting line come January 2018.

Scott has a long history of putting others before himself. He has served in our country’s Special Forces for over two decades, and has selflessly represented his country in uniform many times. Now this opportunity will allow him to achieve a long held ambition of representing Australia, this time as a sporting competitor, on the world stage.

The Dakar rally is held annually and is possibly the world's most prestigious off road cross country motorsport endurance event in the world.

To be accepted as a Dakar competitor, one must demonstrate an ability to compete and finish other internationally accredited events.

Finishing in 17th place at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge followed by an amazing 6th position finish at the Sealine Cross Country Rally in Qatar ensured that his entry has been accepted for Dakar 2018.

2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the Dakar Rally, and it promises to be yet another test of a competitor’s guts, resilience, initiative and tenacity.

Over 14 days, competitors are required to navigate their way through some of the toughest terrain South America has to offer. The race’s total distance will be in excess of 9,500km starting in Lima, Peru and traversing the Andes to the highest point in the race in Bolivia at an altitude of 4,500m before finishing in Cordoba, Argentina.

As an individual who thrives on challenge, Scott will compete in the ultimate test of punishment: The ‘Marathon’ class. This is limited each year to just 20 competitors who are isolated from the rest of the competition and at the end of each day’s 12-16 hours of rding, they must then complete their own servicing, maintenance, mechanical repairs, and preparation for the coming day, all without assistance.

As a privateer entry Scott’s dream does not come cheap, the financial bill runs into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Scott has his confirmation letter from the race organisers, and is now in need of our support to raise the final $60,000 to make this dream a reality.

To date, Scott will be the only privateer Australian representative in this 40th edition of the worlds toughest race. Scott is sensing some lonely days ahead, in what is a race that promises to be tough from start to finish.

You can help by attending a local event has been organised and will be held at Peppers Craigieburn on Saturday evening 21st October . All proceeds will go directly to help Scott achieve his ambitious goal.
